Due to my own curiosity in the matter, as well as encouragement from my paricipating friends, I've decided to join my schools Knowledge Bowl team. At the time I knew very little about how it works and what to expect, so the journey was one of exploration for me. Nevertheless, within the first few practices, the aspect of competition became the central one within our group, making every practice a scrap to get as many points as possible and beat the others.

Knowledge Bowl is a competition usually played between two teams, each consisting of four members. The referee goes through a set number of questions, and whoever presses the buzzer first gets to answer the question. If they get the answer correct, their team gets a point, if not, the opposing team gets a chance to talk about the question and answer it themselves. While it might contain some activity due to the competition and rush to press the buzzer first, Knowledge bowl has much more to do with Creativity. For every question the participants need to think about their answers and how to approach the question, and when they aren't entirely sure, they must consider wether to answer yourself, and risk giving the opponents a golden opportunity, or hope a teammate has more knowledge in the area.

Due to the competitive nature of our group, the goals were set out early on. These were most importantly winning the competition in Zagreb that would be held in Feruary, and to a lesser extent scoring high in the ranking between me and my team.

In the end, we had to return from Zagreb with no trophy or grand achievement. Nevertheless, I have learned many valuable things thanks to knowledge bowl. It has helped develope skills in thinking quickly and critically, as well as doing that withing a group.
